Quarantine and isolation, and remote work

Basically, working remotely in quarantine and isolation is possible. During quarantine (isolation in connection with contact with an infected person), the employee may perform remote work (of course, if technically possible). However, in the event of the appearance of disease symptoms and isolation of an employee, he may work remotely, if his health condition allows it and if he dont have a sick leave. Both being in quarantine and in isolation entitle the employee to benefit and dont work.

Information on quarantine or isolation is necessary for the payment of sickness benefits.

From October 24, 2020, the basis for the payment of sickness benefits to a person quarantined or at home isolation is information in the e-Health Center’s IT system (EWP system) that the person is quarantined or isolated at home. Therefore, the decision of the State Sanitary Inspection or the declaration of the person under quarantine will no longer be needed. ZUS will independently obtain relevant data from the IT system of the e-Health Center. The data sent to ZUS will concern people whose quarantine or isolation lasted on October 22 or will start after that date. ZUS will make these data available to contribution payers on their profiles at PUE ZUS. The insured will also have information about quarantine or isolation on his / her profile at PUE ZUS.

The role of the employee, however, is to report the absence from work to his employer. If he or she feels well (asymptomatic or poorly symptomatic), wants to work, and the employer agrees to work remotely, the employee does not apply for sickness benefit to ZUS and receives full remuneration. On the other hand, if, due to poor condition, he cannot work remotely, then in order to receive sickness benefits from ZUS due to isolation or quarantine, he must inform his employer about it, and the employer is obliged to apply to ZUS for a sickness benefit.
