Accounting Services

The term “accounting services” is a broad term that encompasses a range of activities that comprise an accountant’s work. These activities are performed as part of their work, services provided to accounting clients, or the accounting firms they work for or operate.

Accounting services are provided to both entities or individuals conducting business activity, as well as individuals (sole proprietors) who do not conduct business activity.

As part of their business activity, an accountant may maintain accounting books, a revenue and expense ledger, or conduct settlements based on a flat-rate accounting system (recorded flat rate).

Good and Reliable Recordkeeping – Reliable Accounting Services

Documents submitted by clients, either in electronic or (often) traditional paper format, both revenue and expense, are recorded, i.e., entered into accounting records, for tax purposes, i.e., for the correct calculation of VAT and income tax liabilities (PIT or CIT).

Accounting Services – Accountant’s Activities

An accountant prepares tax returns and also prepares returns required by non-tax state institutions, such as the Central Statistical Office (GUS) or the National Bank of Poland (NBP). Providing accounting services, an accountant enters data from documents relating to business transactions into the accounting system (journal) in chronological order, enters revenue and expense invoices, registers (i.e., posts) purchase and sales documents, and based on this, prepares monthly and annual declarations constituting advance payments.

A Good Accountant – Well-Performed Accounting Services

An accountant depreciates fixed assets and equipment, which may (though not always) constitute a tax-deductible expense. They also often prepare payrolls and maintain records for HR and payroll purposes, calculating employees’ monthly salaries based on the components specified in employment contracts or civil law contracts (contracts of mandate, contracts for specific work). They prepare declarations for the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) and tax purposes, annual financial statements, and tax documentation. A good accountant explains to their clients the consequences of their actions on tax liabilities and helps them correctly prepare (issue) accounting documents.
